THE WOMBATS — ADELAIDE 2022

Author: Veronica Zurzolo

Maybe it’s hits like ‘Greek Tragedy’ or ‘Let's Dance to Joy Division’, or sharing the same name as an adorable native marsupial that makes Australians love English indie rock outfit The Wombats so dearly. With three albums making it into the ARIA Top 5, songs appearing in 7 different Triple J Hottest 100 Countdowns, a cameo appearance in 2008 on the TV show Neighbours, and numerous shows and festival performances down under, our love affair with the three-piece band is nothing new, and isn't going anywhere with the recent announce of their album ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’ accompanied by an Australian Tour!

“To say we’re excited about coming back to Australia to play some shows is the understatement of the century, but hey, the English language can only do so much. So without further ado… WE ARE SO FORKING EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE A NEW ALBUM COMING OUT IN JANUARY AND A TOUR, YES THAT’S RIGHT, SOME ACTUAL GIGS/CONCERTS/PERFORMANCES IN AUSTRALIA NEXT YEAR, CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL!” - D, M & T (The Wombats x)

Adapting to current COVID-19 conditions, the group recorded the upcoming album over the past year remotely from each member's homes in Los Angeles, Oslo, and London respectively. The album's sound has been described as “the most captivating, inventive and forward-thinking music of the band’s career to date”, their latest single ‘If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming With You’ giving a small taste of what’s to come.

Following a huge run of shows including the main stage at Reading & Leeds Festival and Neighbourhood Weekend this year, plus their biggest UK headline tour to date scheduled for next year, The Wombats are fired up and more than ready to hit Perth, Hobart, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane stages in June-July of 2022.
